As we preempted in our previous posts that soon Android will be powering camera and other devices. The first Android digital camera was launched by Nikon and soon after that Samsung launched its Android powered Galaxy Camera. Both of the cameras look almost same but packs different processor and Android versions but most of the features are relatively same. Nikon and Samsung both have selected pretty high resolution (16MP) for a point and shoot camera. In this article I’m going to compare the two Android powered digital camera- Nikon Coolpix S800C and Samsung Galaxy Camera to find out which is best.

Nikon Coolpix S800C is an Android 2.3 Gingerbread operated Digital camera running on a Expeed C2 processor that has been architected specially for photo and video processing. Nikon launched this camera a week ago and the best features is that you will be getting a digital camera with Android, Nikon Coolpix processing engine and 10X Optical zoom Nikkor Lens. It has 3.5″ 819k OLED touch screen and inbuilt A-GPS for quick Geo tagging photos. You can download apps and games from Google Play store. This Android powered camera doesn’t have any 3G or 4G connectivity, you have to rely on Wi-Fi to use all its features. Nikon Coolpix S800C will cost $350.

Samsung Galaxy Camera is par above Nikon Coolpix S800C. It features a 1.4GHz Quad Core Exynos processor with 1GB RAM and runs latest Android 4.1 Jelly Bean operating system. Looking at the specification, we can clearly notice that Samsung Galaxy Camera has same hardware as the Samsung Galaxy SIII mobile phone. They have reworked the whole interface and basic camera app on Android. Samsung has given an extra effort to design a camera app that gives easy access to all detailed camera control using the touch interface. You can even download and use 3rd party camera apps like Instrgram from Google play store. Samsung also features a bigger screen 4.8 inch with 1280×720 HD screen and 8GB storage on-board with MicroSD card support. Samsung Galaxy Camera  has all connectivity options like 3G/4G, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and A-GPS comes with a 1650 mAh battery.

Nikon Coolpix S800C vs Samsung Galaxy Camera: Which is best?

Lets come to the main differences between Nikon Coolpix S800C and Samsung Galaxy Camera. Nikon being a loved camera brand has a positive side as the camera is featuring the Nikkor lens and Coolpix imaging engine. The Android Interface is pretty simple and not much have been done to enhance the end user experience so at the end of the day you will be getting a decent digital camera to show off and that too with Android. On the other hand, Galaxy Camera is quite tempting with bigger screen and Samsung’s new Touchwiz interface on top of latest Android 4.1 Jelly Bean with redesigned camera app.Nikon Coolpix S800C runs outdated Android 2.3 operating system, this can be a deal breaker for some.

Samsung has also revealed that there will be two versions of Galaxy Camera with 3G and 4G connectivity. Beside that Samsung has a great fan following for their Android powered Galaxy devices and this will attract lots of customers. Price of both the cameras has not been revealed yet so I cannot express my final verdict.

Anybody who is looking for a full package camera that has good interface, powerful processor and latest Android OS will go for the Samsung’s Galaxy Camera. Samsung Galaxy Camera will possibly cost more than Nikon  Coolpix S800C which will be available for $350 .
