Verbatim Store ‘n’ Go is an affordable USB 2.0 flash drive. It is available in various storage capacities ranging from 2 GB up to 64 GB. You can choose between Red, Green and Blue colour variants. Verbatim Store ‘n’ Go offers built-in password protection feature which is not so common among other similar USB flash drives in this price range. Verbatim is offering a limited lifetime warranty with the USB flash drive. If you are in the market for USB flash drive then chances are that you will not consider Verbatim as your first preference. Should you buy a Verbatim USB flash drive instead of a similarly priced SanDisk or Kingston flash drive? Let’s find out.

Design and build quality:

Verbatim Store 'n' Go USB 2.0 Flash Drive

Verbatim Store ‘n’ Go will not win any awards for its design. It follows the conventional design language of capless swivel USB flash drives. The build quality is decent and the sliding mechanism of opening male USB connector is sturdy. Unfortunately, the USB flash drive doesn’t feature any notification light. So it doesn’t light up when read or write operation is going on. My previous USB flash drive had a notification light. So this is a little bit inconvenient for me. Overall I’m pleased with the build quality.

Features and performance:

Verbatim Store ‘n’ Go 32GB USB 2.0 flash drive provides 29.6 GB usable space. It is backward compatible to older USB 1.1 ports and works with newer USB 3.0 ports but you will not get blazing fast USB 3.0 speed. The flash drive works on Windows, Linux and Mac operating system. It supports Windows Vista’s ReadyBoost feature which let us use USB flash drive as RAM to speed up computer.

Verbatim EasyLock set up password

The USB flash drive comes preloaded with EasyLock data encryption software to password protect your sensitive data. Setting up EasyLock requires just a few steps. Click on the EasyLock.exe then setup password and you are ready to go. EasyLock doesn’t protect the whole USB flash drive, instead it creates a separate secure drive partition inside the flash drive. So you will not be prompted to type password every time you insert the drive into the computer. Verbatim EasyLock has a drag and drop user interface. It doesn’t take a lot of time to encrypt and decrypt big files. Keep in mind that the encryption software doesn’t work on Mac and Linux.

Now let’s come to the real part; read and write speed. Performance of Verbatim Store ‘n’ Go is a quite good considering it is a budget USB 2.0 drive. Most of the time I got around 10 MB/s write speed while copying files to the USB flash drive and read speed was around 21 MB/s.
