There has been some observation that iPhone sales in the Indian mobile market is much less comparatively to the sales made in the US market. The sales in the Indian market are not even one month of what that has been happening in USA. There are a number of reasons why this discrepancy has been happening in the sales of iPhone, of which the top six reasons are discussed here in detail:

1. Lack of countrywide support:

In India Mac have service centers, while Appleā€™s iPhone service centers are meager, which means you have to resort to your service providers or mobile carriers for issues, and they will politely guide you back to the unreachable mobile service providers. This is not the case with the other competing brands.

2. Unsubsidized handsets:

Well, Indians are not fools and they do compare the price of the iPhone that is being sold in India and the same iPhone that is being sold in the US market. The myth is the phone price falls down rapidly with the arrival of the newer versions but this is not the case always. The fact is that if you are going to buy the phone on contract you are locked for two to three years on a fixed monthly rental. Smartphones that fall in line with similar features and uses from Sony Ericsson and Nokia, are going to fall in line with the iPhone price range, the cost of iPhone 3G from Airtel is about INR 31, 000 while that of Nokia N8 is only INR 25, 000.

3. Poor Data coverage:

There is no point in having accessibility to 3G services, when iPhone 3G was launched in India, none of the service providers was equipped to provide 3G connectivity. This was one of the main reasons why iPhone 3GS when launched last year made not much of the sales, for public do not understand what 3G is until this comes to the market and as awareness is made by the mobile service providers. They will find this more meaningful only when they are able to experience the use of 3G connectivity like Mobile Browser for the browsing speeds.

4. Unpromising Providers:

The Indian scenario of iPhone is like the one between AT&T and Verizon Wireless in US, here the competition is between Airtel and Vodafone. The fact is Vodafone is almost out of stock halfway through their sales, they have set on a low target. While Airtel, always has a device ready for you to take one home. Besides, Airtel has a better deal on iPhone, they provide 500mb/month of internet usage free. If you are not an Airtel customer, you need to become one of them, which in India is a taboo that everyone have their own preference for mobile service providers, probably because of the regional coverage capacity of the mobile service providers.

5. Skeptical Consumerism:

Apple Mac is nothing new, but iPhones is a pretty new concept to reach a wider range of the public, that they do not feel like giving their hopes and trust on Nokia and BlackBerry to Apple that easily. These brands have been early in the Indian market and have been there for a pretty long time.

6. Sales Desk:

iPhone in India is being sold only at Airtel or Vodafone stores only and not even in an Apple store, unlike USA, you can buy on your desired service provider an iPhone at the Apple store. In an Apple store, this will be more customer based need and not like the sales in a mobile service provider store, where they will want to sell the iPhone for their most expensive plans for the sales representative will receive more perks.
